For players interested in seeing what the series is all about first-hand, the original Frostpunk is available to play for free via Steam from August 12-16 in addition to being on sale for 70% off. While the first Frostpunk often featured players having to choose between their humanity or survival, the new game will present various choices that focus on human nature in the form of politics and the push and pull over technological progress.įrostpunk got off to a fast start when it released in 2018 on PC, eventually going on to sell 3 million copies and receiving a console version as well as numerous expansions. That vastly expanded experience, as Stokalski explains, means more choices for players to build and run their city as they see fit.

"What we aim to deliver to players is an experience that goes vastly beyond that of the original Frostpunk." "Our ambition is to do more than a straight-up sequel," Stokalski says in a press release. If comments are still showing as disabled, a site update is happening on our side that has caused a temporary takedown.Jakub Stokalski, Frostpunk 2's co-director, says a bigger development team will allow the sequel to put more focus on all aspects of the game, ranging from its production value, the game's scale, and its UX design. Extraordinary circumstances call for desperate measures, and all I can do is ask for forgiveness from those trampled by my headstrong approach.”įrostpunk 2 is planned to launch for PC only for now, but the first game eventually made its way to consoles so chances are good that this will too. Frostpunk did this on multiple occasions and made me feel squeamish when forcing edicts upon society instead of building consensus. We scored the original Frostpunk an 8.75 out of 10 with former Game Informer editor Matt Bertz writing that “Rarely does an interactive experience keep me awake at night wrestling with big decisions. But most importantly, it adds a new layer that is present in many aspects of the game – be it politics, be it society, be it technological progress – the conflict between humans and their nature”

According to the game’s co-director Jakub Stokalski, “Frostpunk 2 builds on the conflicts of its predecessor – survival vs human values, life vs the arctic frost. The game is set in a fictional world that is in the midst of a severe ice age, and players are tasked with leading a small group of survivors who have taken shelter around a coal-powered generator. While Frostpunk 2 retains many of the elements of the original, 11 Bit Studios says they’re aiming to make “more than a straight-up sequel”. Frostpunk is a city-building survival game developed and published by 11 bit studios.
